The world of honeybees: from honey to bee venom; from Canada to Africa to Asia; from little “stingless bees” to giant “pukyutan”. An immense world, with so many nooks and crannies. There are approximately 20,000 species of bees within the order Hymenoptera, of which only seven species are recognized as honey bees.

We will start exploring the world of honeybees from the point of view of the bee of commerce of the world: the European honeybee or New World Bee – Apis mellifera.

How did people learn to culture this honeybee? Where did they house them? How did they harvest the honey?

How do people culture honeybees now? How will people keep them in the future? What can we harvest from honeybees?

These and many more bee stories await you at the “Museo sa Ilog”

Important Note: It took almost four years and a lot of goodwill, in terms of suppliers credit and a lot of other help from friends to build this museum. Midway through construction, we realized that we could not possibly recoup our investment simply by charging fees to students.

We then came to understand our role; that of teaching natural living through the world of honeybees.

We have now come to accept this role; we think of it as our contribution. The nominal fees we charge are for improvement, upkeep and maintenance only.
